About

Samuel Adams born in 1977 in Northamptonshire, studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London and subsequently graduated in 2007. He has since shown in both UK and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, 2009; Arbatfest, Almaty, Kazakhstan, 2014; The Royal Society of British Sculptors, 2014. He currently lives and works in London.

As an artist, Adams works with ideas revolving around communication and the physical relationships between people, cities and space. Working at the intersection between architecture, fine art sculpture and 3D design, his practice has developed through an exploration of the psychogeography of our everyday experiences. Although, his work is informed by the physical constructs of modernity - architecture, design, photography, mapping – it remains based in a reverence and knowledge of form and material.

His sculptural installations integrate themselves within the architecture we surround ourselves with on a daily basis. Shelving within the works act as semi-functional tools to support the rest of the structure in a symbiotic relationship. Whether a pot plant, a metallic doppelgänger of a Brillo pad or a balanced geometric product of design, all of Adams sculptural forms exist to support themselves as the sum of their parts. By reducing the interior into a compact trace of itself, Adams’ work is intensley familiar yet ambiguous in function. Does it belong on a household wall, as a functional storage space or as precious gallery object? Perhaps it functions as all three.
