Oak display plinth for art and lighting, Notting Hill

Made for a private client in Notting Hill, this gallery-style oak display base runs the full length of the room, providing a continuous support for integrated lighting and a central artwork. A single European oak top spans over four metres, with the cabinets built in four separate sections so that each unit can be easily removed to access and service the air conditioning concealed behind.

To keep the long oak surface visually uninterrupted, the client chose simple, discreet cable holes rather than visible fittings. The entire piece is finished in a light oil, giving a soft sheen and only the slightest warm shift in colour. A subtle shadow gap at the base lifts the cabinet off the floor, keeping the elevation visually light and clearly defined against the herringbone timber. Scribed precisely to the walls and completed with oak infill, the display sits comfortably in the space – a clean, quiet piece of joinery that we’re really proud of, and that the client loves living with.
